Might want to post brand and model number of your dryer.

Gas dryer

Would a back draft in the exhaust pipe have something to do with it as a safety feature??

Gas dryer

That would only cause a problem if it was stuck closed. Remove the burner cover and see if the ignitor is coming on.

Gas dryer

I'll try that. Would that be the only issue or could there be others??
Only asking for the reason that if the ignitor does come on.

For some reason that model #'s not coming up, you did not include your location in your profile so I''ll make a guess your not in the US.
Here's some general info on dryers.

Your post is confusing to me. You say it's coming on, but not heating. What's "coming on"? The flame, the drum is turning?

Ignitor not coming on could be caused by a bad control board, bad ignitor, bad electrical connection.

Gas dryer

Remove cover/panel to see if the ignitor tries to light the gas.
