When i try to get it to run it will cycle, ignite run for about 2 seconds then shut down. I get a code 34 when it ignites it sounds like it pulses or surges?? then shuts off. please help it is going to be 9 below tonight

Check the intake and exhaust pipes outside for blockage with snow etc. If it is a 1 pipe unit (concentric) with a donut shaped hood, stick your fingers behind that hood and check for blockage there. Air goes in there. Check the drain hose from the furnace for kinks/blockage.

I just checked the condensation trap and hoses they are all good. I checked inlet and outlet outside and they are clear as far as i can tell. I checked the inlet and outlet at the furnace and they look ok.

Those are difficult units to work on so I would recommend you call a reputable Carrier dealer. If they cannot come soon you may want to go to HDepot and pick up a few of those $20 fan heaters. I have worked on lots of them and there are at least 6 different non DIY issues which could cause your problem. If you are using propane is your tank full?

Doing some research the first thing listed to check for a code 34 is the flame sensor. I took it out like it said ( Is it the long thin metal rod with one wire) and cleaned it with sandpaper and still no go. Is there a way to test it or bypass it to see if this is the problem??
