Furnace Vent Cover?

Hello,

I am curious for you HVAC experts whether a wire mesh cover is necessary for furnace vent on the roof? My HVAC guys says no way since it could lead to ice build up etc and looks like placed a 45. I tend to think you need something to prevent birds from nesting? Please disregard red circles - I recognize some of these are NOT hvac but just bath vents and radon vent.

Your thoughts?

Here is the cover I was thinking:

Furnace Vent Cover?

I earlier said on different thread...no problem but, did not realize you were talking about furnace vent so must retract...I have seen mega ice build up on units wthout screens so, definitely do not add screen

Furnace Vent Cover?

Thats one of the good ice makers. Known to have caused many many no heat problems.

In areas where it is code to put one in. After it passes inspection, I remove it.

Furnace Vent Cover?

Wow - great info. Thank you so much guys. For sure, I am not going to put guards on HVAC vents but what about:

1. Passive radon pipe
2. Bathroom fan

Am I asking for trouble by putting grill/guards on these - see pictured above?

Many thanks and sorry for stupid questions...

Leave them open. Birds rarely try to nest in straight vertical pipes. They'll probably like the neck on that 45 though.
