Furnace question cuts off until I hit the reset switch

Why would my furnace cut off and then need to be reset to turn it back on? It just stops working until I go and turn the reset switch off and then back on, what would be the reason for this? Any help would be greatly appreciated .

By meaning reset switch do you mean the breaker?

It's a Gas furnace and it's about 10 years old. By swtich I mean I have a "light" switch attached the furnace, so I have to turn it off and then back on and it works fine after that, for awhile. Sometimes a fews hours and sometimes a day before I need to turn it off and on again.

The list is long of what it could be. The switch could be bad or anything else past it like the flame sensor, pressure switch....I could go on an on.

Do you have a multimeter, know how to use it and comfortable testing live 120v circuits?

Also tell us what brand and model furnace it is.

Yea..Sounds like maybe your switch/wiring is faulty if the furnace is working fine otherwise..
Id put a new one in before doing anything else. Only lose $2 and about 5 minutes if it doesn't solve it.

Oh Tommy! $2.00 for a light switch? I get them for 75Cents. Charge 30 plus service to replace. Lowes on sale.
Buy 'em ten at a time it's cheaper 'bro.

Before you replace it, test it to see if that is the problem. Once it shuts off then test the load side and see if you have any juice. No juice? Replace the switch and problem solved.

It's always good to know what the problem was. Consider it learning.
