Does the ignitor come on? Do you have gas going to the unit?

furnace not staying lit

I am not real familiar with this brand/model of furnace. Do the burners get lit by a hot plate igniter or spark igniter or does a pilot get lit then the burners? Some models of 80% furnaces have an intermediate pilot the flame sensor needs to see before the burners light. If this is the case, make sure the pilot is burning enough to keep the flame in the sensor when the burners come on. If it does not have a pilot is the sensor in the flame when the burners come on? Some background may also be helpfull. Has there been any work done on or near the furnace electricaly?

It was installed in 03 and that's about all I know of its history. It's got a hot plate that gets red to light the burner. There is a rod that is separate that is the flame sensor.

The flames do come on but only for a few seconds then shut off. It does that 3 times then stops lighting and just blows cool air.

Probably a dirty flame sensor.

Take the burners out and clean them too. The flame sensor is only 1/3rd of the flame proving sequence. Clean burner faces for a good return to ground and the circuit board are the others 2/3rds of the mix.

Do you mean the pipe that shoots out the gas originally?
