Furnace issue-Ignitor doesn't glow and gas valve doesn't open

I have a White Rodgers 50A50-241 Control Module that is flashing 4x's. I pulled the top panel thinking that the flame sensor need cleaning but it was good. When I power it up, the blower runs strong but the ignitor doesn't glow and I don't hear the gas valve click. I pulled the ignitor and check the resistance and it measures around 84 ohms. The 3a fuse is good.

What next?

make sure pressure switch is closing should have 0 volts across terminals when inducer is running. if you have 24-28 volts across switch switch is not closing. something obstructing flue. start there

Furnace issue-Ignitor doesn't glow and gas valve doesn't open

Its a York Diamond 80. Unit is 12 yrs old. The unit was working last night but lost heat during the night. I checked the flue and found no obstructions. The main blower and flue blower are running at full speed. If I remove the lower door the switch shuts off the blower.

Thanks for the help guys as its 15 tonight and hope I can fix this soon.

If both fans are running it sounds like it is off on one of the limits.

what does the 4 flash code tell you. that info is on the control itself or on a sticker on the back of one of the doors. did the fan run all the time B4 this problem started. if not then the high limit control may be shot from the furnace running too hot. looks like it is above the igniter. should not have 24 volts across it when trying to start and you can use an ohm meter to check it also.

I thought 4 flashes on a 50A50 241 was the code for an open high limit.
Remove the wires from the high limit and check it for continuity. If no continuity then replace it. If it's ok, then follow & check the limit wires for damage or a loose connection.

I took your advise and went to check the high limit switch and pulled the wire to check continuity but decided to check voltage first. Put wires back on and was about to hit it with meter and ignitor lit up and the gas valve opened.

Another meaning to Thanksgiving. Thanks guys for the quick troubleshoot. I thought I had jiggled every wire before I started but I must have had a screw loose. Ha ha.

you should check the temp rise thru the furnace. put a cooking thermometer 2 feet downstream from the plenum and subtract the return temp or house temp. check the rating on the model sticker. the limit may have popped and got stuck and when you jiggled the terminal it reset. may happen again if it is cycling on the limit.

glad to see you have heat..but should still try to find out what happen because it will happen again...due as yuri suggested check the temp rise on furnace to see if there is a air flow problem setting of limit... ben sr

Most likely limit was stuck open, and when you removed the wires and put them back on. it jarred the contacts closed again. You probably have an air flow problem, and it has beed tripping on high limit for a while. Check your A/C coil and see if its dirty.

I had been doing some drywall work in my basement and my filter looked clogged up. I suspect the airflow was down and cause the high limit switch to trip. I will check the temp variance as suggested. Thanks again for all the replies to my post.

I never trust a limit that has stuck open to be a reliable safety. Use it until a new limit comes but replace ASAP.
