90%+ furnaces have been in the USA for a long time now.

They ARE a PITA, but they are out and installed in homes.

Quite.

I see oil burning recuperative furnaces offered but new mention of the gentleman's furnace being of the type.

Are you perhaps basing your conclusion on the fact of 83% efficiency of the poster's furnace that it is oil. There certainly is no mention of fuel type.
