Furnace Combustion Chamber
On my furnace there is a caution sticker that states to neither vacuum, clean, or otherwise damage the ceramic fibers of the combustion chamber.
First, I have to ask why? Second, there were numerous flakes (of I am assuming ceramic fibers), based on the warning message I am assuming I should just leave them there? And is this normal? |
Probably just a CYA warning. Unless they're working on a furnace with a hard ceramic chamber like a Thermopride or Hallmark, many techs that don't know what they're doing damage soft combustion chambers in furnaces, or damage door refractory, target wall refractory and bottom blankets in boilers. Soft furnace combustion chambers are generally damaged by vacuum hoses and flexible metal extensions. Boiler refractory is often damaged by soot saws and brushes as well as by vacuum.

I appreciate the post although I didn't understand much of what was said. I have a Hallmark by the way. Are you saying I have a hard ceramic chamber or soft? |
