Furnace Blowing Cold Air Only

We have a Heil NUG5075bfb1 furnace. Last night the furnace was running but only blowing cold air. Everything seems to be working, but there is no heat. Upon checking, we noticed more of a gas smell than we ever have. Any ideas?

Yeah, and they're all bad. Where do you smell gas, just in the furnace cabinet or in the main house? Don't fool around with it if it is in the main house. Turn off the gas and get out leaving a window or two and a door open and call someone from the neighbors house. Don't turn off any lights switches or equipment and don't use the phone.

No, no gas smell in house. Only inside furnace.

I believe this is a medium high efficiency unit that has a draft inducer or combustion air blower and a hot surface igniter. If you have your owners manual there should be a sequence of operation in there that you can follow. Quick check: Turnoff the power to the unit without changing anything, let the blower come to a stop then reenergize it. Does the blower come back on? If it does check for a lockout condition. Some of those units have diagnostic lights and a code listing sometimes inside the door or in the book. Most of them don't but check for a safety lockout reset, check that and also check your air filter dirty filters can cause nuisance lockouts.
