furnace blower motor late

I have an old Janitrol furnace. It runs, shuts off, then takes 20-30 seconds before the blower fan clicks on. I leveled the thermostat & that corrected the problem. The first time the temp was adjusted later, it threw it off again. Do I just need a new thermostat?

if the stat has a mercury bulb it has to be level and tight can't move when you touch it....the fan cycle is thru the furnace heating not the stat...down on the furnace do you have a control mounted above the burners with number dial or temps stamped on it....set to 130F-150F that is your fan ON when the furnace heats up

If its an old janitrol, those controls are behind a metal cover. The cover gets unscrewed and pinched off but you have to turn the power off to the furnace first. That cover is insanely dangerous to remove when the furnace is live because of the protruding 120 V fan connections just inside of it.
The fan control needs to be adjusted down to a lower "ON" temp but too low will just have your fan running continuously.

No Ben, You might be right.

If his burners are turning off while the thermostat is actively calling for heat then the furnace has been limiting. In an older janitrol that is often because the blower was supposed to have come on much earlier.

If his burners are turning off because of overly active anticipation on an old thermostat, or the thermostat is just loose on the wall then the furnace maybe fine.
