Question

Furnace Blower Motor Keeps Burning Up

This began last Thursday (while I was out of town) after my wife turned the t-stat up. We are now on our 4th motor and have a stumped AC tech. Motor, fan relay, capacitor, and t-stats have all been replaced. Coils have been taken out and cleaned. The AC works fine and dandy once it's repaired but as soon as someone turns the thermostat up, the motor pops and emits a burned electrical smell. I would appreciate any suggestions you guys have as to what is causing the issue. I am ignorant to HVAC systems and also anything electrical...so keep it simple for me. Thanks!

first off when in cooling mode turning a stat up does nothing..... turning it down starts the A/C ...does your blower motor run on low speed all the time....

No, it didn't run all the time...only when triggered by t-stat setting. Just fyi, we keep the t-stat set on a higher temp during the day while we are away and turn it back down when we get home. The motor burns up only after we turn the t-stat up.

Check your neutral wire going to furnace/blower motor.

Is this a heat pump? You have a serious control issue supplying the motor with the wrong voltage....or you have installed a motor(s) of the wrong voltage.
