furnace blower cover whistling

I have an Aire-flo upflow furnace and the bottom cover does not want to shut completely, it is just a sheet metal cover held on by a flange on the bottom and two sheet metal screws on the top... well on the left side the sheet metal screw will not tighten as it seems it's stripped the hole that it is in to the point it wont hold the panel flush against the furnace so on the left side it pops open about a millimeter sucking air from the furnace room into the blower compartment... which a gap this small will make a whistle noise... is there anything I can do about this? try to find a larger shaft sheet metal screw? or some type of stripping I could put down the sides of the panel to prevent air flow? like that one sided foam tape? They used that stuff in the construction of the furnace to seal the burner compartment off...

what would you guys suggest?

Is it configured such that you could just slip a speed nut on the piece that the screw threads into?

Ayuh,... Another bandaid is, the metal tends to bend abit from the screws threads,...
Take 2 hammers, 'n hold 1 against the area on the inside, then use the 2nd to reflatten the area...
It might hold enough for awhile...
The next size up sheetmetal screw should work as well,...
Or,...
Just drill new holes next to what's there...

HDepot, #10x 1/2" Robertson self tapping sheet metal screw. Should have them in small blister packs in screw dept.
