Fored Air Furnace Won't Shut Off

My forced air furnace is shutting off at a temperature over 10 degrees what my thermostat is set at. The manufacturer is Suburban Manufacturing Company and the model is HF-50E,EC. I had Chuck from Chuck's Heat here and he said that I needed a new furnace because its over ten years old (the place was built in 1993). From what I have read, I think its the plenum temperature limit switch, but I haven't been able to figure out where that is. Perhaps its part of the circuit card?

Fored Air Furnace Won't Shut Off

So I called Suburban today and they told me that Williams is/was the manufacturer. So I called Williams and had to leave a voice mail to request to purchase an owners manual. I haven't been called back yet. Does anybody have any idea what the problem with the furnace is?

Do you have a newer digital thermostat or the older style with the mercury?

I would check the thermostat do see if it is telling the furnace to turn off at the proper temp.

reline is right.

I don't know who chucs heat is but, your problem is most likely that the thermostat is either broken or out of level.

The only reason to buy a new furnace when it is still functioning is if there is a hole in the heat exchanger. I still service furnaces that are 15 years old and working fine. but if there is any holes in the heat exchanger, i replace them.

It could be the stat but

Check you furnace filter first. it may be blocked.

Also you may have replaced you filter wit one that is cause too much retriction.

Sometimes it may be the flame sensor losing a good signal

Let me know

allan,

It's not short cycling. The problem is that it is running too long. you just gave the cures for a short cycling furnace.:p
