Forced Hot Air Oil Furance was loud for the last week. Then a little while ago it made a louder noise a couple bangs and then ran nice and smooth and normal again. Sounded like it burned through something. Oilish smell started coming from the vents in the house so I Shut it off, checked it out thinking there was a clog? Nothing was blocked but there was some debris at the fire door (lid that allows you to look into the burner) and plenty of debris junk in the exhaust vent. Nothing to warrant a blockage. Turned it back on, oilish smell continued but wasn't that bad. Shut it off. Noticed outside power vent cover came off. Probably cause vibration adding to the noise. What was making noise still is a buzzing noise from the motor when its on that was outside the house under the power vent cover. A little smoke coming from it to.
Is this motor done? Should it be cleaned first?
What was burned to leave the debris?
Anything else I should look into?
Well took apart the furnace, found a lot of damage in the combustion chamber. The ceramic coating/refractory cement is flaking off. Cleaned everything down good. Poped off the power vent motor to find 3 little blades left on its 30+ blade fan. Going to replace that.
Getting the burner tuned up for the year, but got to look into repairing/replacing the combustion chamber.
