FLIR - Thermal Imaging

Anyone familiar with thermal imaging of a house to see what areas are loosing the most heat?

Are there companies that offer this service or a DIY way to do so?

Yup, the cameras are expensive. Can rent for about $800/week. Or purchase from $2500-6k.

I found a local guy that will do a base scan for $150...for 90 minutes. No report.
I dont need a report. he wants another $100 to do a report.

Trying to find a few more guys before I pull the trigger.

Works better if you have it done during a blower door test.

Without the blower door test, you see a lot.
But, you won't see all the air leaks you have.

Yes, they complement themselves, but IMHO the IR camera will probably catch more problems. The IR camera won't catch things such as seals that only leak during gusts and negative/positive pressure situations. The blower door test won't find things such as missing insulation in the middle of a wall.

I have a guy coming out Wednesday morning to scan the whole house and take photos of problem areas. I'll be here walking with him to gather as much information as I can.

I dont believe he is bringing a blower, he did ask how many exhaust fans I have though and mentioned that I'll need to turn on the dryer in cool mode, and all the exhaust fans prior to him coming.

If he doesnt bring a blower, should I open a window and put a box fan on high in it?

Since this thread is no longer really HVAC related, I have created a new thread in the construction forum.

It can be found at: FLIR Thermal Imaging Scan - Insulation Issues

Thanks.
