Flame roll out switch

I have A new goodman furnace and I have to reset the flame roll out switch constently. The flame looks good when it fires off. Could the roll out switch just be bad?

Flame roll out switch

How old is it exactly? The switch is never bad but doing it's job. The unit may have a cracked heat exchanger or be overfired. This situation is DANGEROUS. Do not keep resetting it until the reason for it tripping is found.

Post the model #. Is it a high efficiency furnace with plastic vent pipes or a mid efficient with a metal pipe to the chimney? I would call the installer or a Goodman contractor as the parts should have a 5 yr warranty plus the heat exchanger.

Its the mid grade one with the metal vent to the roof. I did notice that it is very windy here and you can here it coming through the vent. the vent cap is on. could that be the cause of the flame roll out problem

Not usually and very rare. There is a pressure switch in the furnace on the ventor fan which will prevent the furnace burner from firing up if there is excess wind or a downdraft. That switch may be faulty. You have a very dangerous situation and it needs to be checked by a Pro. If it gets out of hand you will end up with burnt wiring/blown circuit board and a fire! Is it LP/Propane? The gas valve/burner gas pressure needs to be checked as it may be overfiring. Do you have a wood burning stove/fireplace? If so you may be sucking air down the chimney of the furnace and if it fires up that switch will trip. May need a combustion air pipe installed in the furnace room or crack open a window when burning wood.

Its natural gas. I have a gas pressure guage that screws in the gas valve. so I sould check the inlet and outlet pressure?

You can check the outlet pressure. Should be stamped on the model # and ratings sticker. Usually 3.5 " WC. Unless it is a 2 stage unit. Low fire will be lower and on that sticker. Remove the vent pipe at the top of the furnace where it attaches and look for a dead bird/blockage there. Have you worked on gas furnaces before or have related experience?

Watch the flames when the blower starts up.

Do they jump around, or change at all?
