I'm having a problem with my heat pump, high electric bills. I have a HVAC tech coming to my home and wanted to be educated before his arrival. I have a Ruud 4 ton system. On the first visit this is what was determined. Air flow is good, here were the pressures that were recorded:
Low side= 40 PSIG, "Suction line temperature"=68 degrees.
High side= 235 PSIG, "Liquid line temperature"= 85 degrees
Temperature outside was 40 degrees.
Temperature inside was 70 degrees.
I have a "fixed orifice" on the outside unit and he thinks there is a restriction there. The liquid lines were also checked and do not have any kinks in them. What should the tech do when he comes to my house tomorrow?
Well the tech came out and opened up the system and the fixed orifice was free of any obstruction. When replacing the filter dryer low and behold we found our restriction! After that the pressures were:
Low side was 32 PSIG, Line temp was 52 degrees.
High Side was 210 PSIG Line temp was 85 degrees.
It was 45 degrees outside.
Do these sound normal? Yesterday the heat pump was on for 6 to 7 minutes and then off. Today with temperatures about the same its taking 10 to 11 minutes. Why would this be happening??
