Fix Leak or Replace Coil--which?

I know my home A/C leaks. It had to be rechared a couple times last year. The technician said the coil needs to be replaced. But wouldn't just fixing the leak be cheaper? My house is ten years old. Should I replace the coil or try to find someone to fix the leak?

Sometimes. You have to do more damage to the coil removing fins to fix the leak, that it doesn't cool as well.
Sometimes. After a leak is fixed in a coil. Another one shows up a week later, and then you end up paying for another repair, or replacing the coil anyway.

Replace is the better solution.

I would think about upgrading to a 410A system. Your unit probably has R-22 in it. R-22 around here is getting very expensive.
