Fan setting reads AUTO and ON at same time on Honeywell 8500 thermostat
I have a 1-1/2 year old Honeywell digital touch screen 8500 thermostat. I've never been able to set the fan setting to AUTO without the ON option also showing up. In other words, I cycle through the fan settings, select AUTO, push the DONE button, and then the Fan display will show both AUTO and ON at the same time. And if I select AUTO, the fan stays on all the time. If I select CIRC, then it'll work properly and display properly, showing only CIRC.
Is this a defective thermostat? Also, not sure if this is related, but for its first year of operation, the thermostat never made any noises. But after about a year, now whenever it cycles the heat on and off, you can hear a loud click. It's as loud as if someone snapped their fingers, and you can hear it 30 feet away.
If the thermostat is defective, is Honeywell usually good at replacing their units that are still under warranty (I think it has a 5 year warranty) directly to the consumer? Or will they only replace them through one of their licensed dealers? I'm hoping I don't have to pay for a service call to get it replaced.
Thanks in advance for your advice!
check the program for fan operation. You can set the program differently for the fan on each time period.
