Expansion tank location??


I have a multi zoned (1 pump per zone) gas fired HW base-board heating system. Where should the diaphram expansion tank & make up fill water be located? I'm getting conflicting info from Weil-McLain and Amtrol. Amtrol states the make up water and expansion tank should be connected to the supply side at the pump suction. Weil McLain states the make up water and expansion tank should be connected to the return line prior to entering the boiler. I plan to install an air seperator with air vent on the supply side to minimize air in the system.

Expansion tank location??


It is best to install the expansion tank just before the suction side of the circulation pump. don't forget to properly fill the air side with proper amount of pressure.

either before the boiler or at the suction side of the pump would still be the same...but for flow conditions, install on suction side of pump.

Expansion tank location??


The air separator should be on the supply side of the boiler. As you heat water it starts driving the air from the water. Your air separation will be better on the hot side.

Viper16- thank you for reply, thats what I thought. My boiler was pipped totally incorrect, I have a lot of air in the system, I will repipe asap..... thanks again
