evaporator coil information

I was looking at the evaporator coil in my furnace for my central air and I noticed that it does not havea expansion valve of any sort, I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this is ok?
thanks

Does the air conditioning work? It will not cool at all without an expansion valve.

Most older evaporator coils have Capallary tubes or orifices instead of expansion valves.
