electric igniter

The eletric igniter in my TRANE XE 80 keeps going out. Last winter A repairman replaced the main board and a new looking igniter. A month later it went out. He thought it was a faulty igniter and replaced it.It worked fine until this winter and it went out again. What is causing it to burn up?

How often do you change your air filter?

Does your burner cycle on and of a couple times during a heat call?

Is it the right ignitor for your furnace?

if your flame sensor is dirty and not providing enough signal to the board and recycling the heating sequence, then it may be burning out from over usage, also I would replace the silicone carbide ignitor with an silicone nitride upgrade.... you can also check to see if after the burners are lit and running to see if the board is still sending out voltage to the ignitor, this will cause them to have shortened life. Carbide ignitors have an average life span of only 3-5 years....

condensate from the A/C leaking durning the summer dripping on the ignitor will shorten it's life

In addition, high humidity levels around the furnace in general (typically the basement) will shorten the ignitors life.
