Can you help me figure out why my electric furnace in a new home (3 years) makes a very loud clicking/banging sounds, much like that of a breaker being switched, every time it turns on and off. It functions fine and heats the house without problem, but I'm concerned about this loud sound. Any thoughts?
go near the panel when the unit turns on...there should be a little box that may hum when the unit is on. There would be an audible click and a possible hum from it. How loud are we talking? can you hear it across the house?
It sounds like a loud relay but some of these air handlers have a cover over the control panel that tends to amplify noise. My air handler had a LV transformer hum but it was much worse with the cover over the control panel. I modified the cover to dampen out the vibration.
