Dunkirk boiler problem

Hi, I have a Dunkirk gas fired boiler, Model xeb3. This has been installed for 4.5 years. This year upon firing it up, there is a burnt gas smell comming from around the inducer fan housing. This is the first time I have ever smelled this and am not sure of problem. The boiler works although the fan only runs 3 seconds before ignition. I checked direct vent line and it is clear. Also fan housing gasket is good. Any ideas? Thanks
