Ductwork 101

Can someone tell me two things:
1. How do you hook the return air panning up to the return air duct?

2. When installing new ductwork on an upflow furnace, how do you hook the top of the plenum into the supply air duct?

Ductwork 101

You end the panning at the duct. Cap the joist space. And cut a hole in the return duct.

A warm air collar helps.
