Is ductless worth a darn?

Hi,

My husband and I live in a condo and are currently redoing our kitchen. We have a 1970s useless recirculating vent. Extremely difficult to put in a duct because of strata rules, building code issues and various other red tape. So my question is: has recirculating technology improved at all since the 70s? What is the best product out there? It's an island configuration with only 52 inches between cooktop and ceiling.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Recirc is still the same as it was in the 70's.

Have you considered a mini-split? I have a Mitsubishi Mr. Slim heat pump/ac in a 14'x27' sunroom and it works fantastic. Added less than $10 per month to out electric bill.

I think the OP is speaking about a ventless range hood.

I'd probably assume that the charcoal filters are a bit better today than they were 40 years ago.

They are the only line of defense against blowing the grease and smoke right back into the kitchen.

It's not optimal, but what can ya do?
