Ductless Air Conditioner DIY?

We have an old Sanyo 24,000 BTU ductless air conditioner that we'd like to replace with a modern ductless unit. I've seen an equivalent Ramsond unit selling for $1600 at Home Depot.

I have extensive electrical experience so I'd feel confident doing that part of a DIY install, but I've been told that I'd still need an HVAC contractor to "charge" the system with refrigerant and legally dispose of the existing Freon from the old unit. Is this true?

Are there any other aspects that would make a ductless DIY installation impractical?

Steve

Before you undertake this yourself make a few calls to local HVAC contractors. They may not want to service or charge a product you installed yourself.

I think you will find someone to service and charge it...... it will cost a lot as most contractors dont like doing it .... selling equipment is how they make ends meet...
