duct cleaning

Hello, i am a very recently retired homeowner in Richmond, VA and am looking forward to getting my house in order

my question is - has anyone found their life dramatically improved by having their duct's cleaned? I got an estimate of $700 and have seen that there's certainly dust up there.......but is it necessary and will it help with allergies?
thanks, mcgina

Dust accumulation will be reduced if you change the filter every 3 months. Use a high quality filter and not $2 ones. The $700 seems high. How many square feet is your house? If it is less than 2,000 square feet then I would get another estimate for the duct cleaning.

Factors that make duct cleaning a worthwhile investment:

Pets in the house
Construction going on in your area (airborn dirt and dust)
Carpeting
Leaving windows open
Smokers

I agree with Redline..700 is too high, get a couple more estimates.
