Ducane gas furnace
My 30 yr. old gas furnace has a cracked heat exchanger so it's time to replace it. I called an hvac contractor & he recommended a Ducane with a 95% efficiency rating. I think he said Ducane is made by Lennox. Is that true & does anyone have an opinion on the Ducane brand? The contactor said he's installed 10 of these in the past year with no problems, but I realize that could be a sales pitch. Thanx.

Make some more calls and get some more quotes.
And yes it's time for that old one to go. |
Are you saying stay away from Ducane?

I have had to have our service contractor (when I worked for a very large land holding company) to replace at least 20 heat exchangers in oil fired furnaces that had Ducane heat exchangers in them. After a few we just decided to go with new furnaces. The same contractor related to me about a new subdivision where about a hundred heat exchangers, in gas fired furnaces, also Ducane heat exchangers, had cracked...these were all only one to two years old at the time but, that was about 20 years ago so, not sure how they have been standing up lately.
Check around AND ask about warranties, including labor. If Lennox bought them out probably much better now. |
This kind of surprises me they suggested Ducane.
I bought a used Ducane furnace, is a 2001 model, it sat in storage about 3 years before I finally got it installed and working with help from here, 2 weeks ago. I live in New Mexico, mild winters, the burners still look like new. I was worried about the electronics on it after sitting for 3 years, so far it works perfect and pleased with it. When I bought it 2 years ago, I did some research on it, were good and bad reports. But lennox did buy them out, when I search for Ducane, all they make anymore is gas bbq's. Maybe if you search lennox you can find the Ducane brand? |
