Question

Dryer duct - Sealing to outside wall

Hi All,

I have replaced the half-assed dryer vent that was installed at my house by the previous owner. Now I'm wondering how can I seal this to the outside wall (from the inside). Besides caulk, could I use expanding foam? The vent hole is up against a stud so there's an area that I just can't reach very well with the caulk gun. If I used that foam stuff, I'm sure it would do a better job than I could.

My concern is the temperature of the vent. It gets pretty warm but that foam stuff says it can take to 240 F. I'm SURE it isn't getting that hot, but I'm leery none the less.

How do professionals seal something like this?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tony

Dryer duct - Sealing to outside wall

I used Great Stuff for my dryer vent. Mine runs through a concrete foundation. To be honest, I didn't even think about the heat from the vent, I just filled up the area with it. That was about a year ago and it has held up so far.
