down shot burners

can a Multi positional furnace be installed so the burners are shooting straight down against gravity? I would think there would be an air flow problem or something but not sure.

we came across one today. The customer said it worked last year, but I have never seen one either. Once the draft fan gets just a little weak this thing has to start popping roll outs.

There isn't one out there that I'm aware of that allows for this kind of installation. If you're a contractor I hope you have model # at least to research the option and if it's not allowed you get back to the customer and get the furnace shutdown until it's installed correctly. Being the last one there, when something bad happens, you're the one the lawyers are going to be looking for.

Does NOT meet the gas code or UL rating/approval if done that way. There are pics with clearances to combustibles and approved ductwork connections in the manual and the gas inspector ( if he is not some idiot Bubba) should have caught that. As a Pro if you have a license you could get in trouble later, No license then no problem or less of one. Could get some serious delayed ignition/backfiring if the burners get dirty or the HSI gets weak.

We shut of the gas and told the customer we wold come back out in the fall to flip this thing around. That way when we left it was shut off and if he calls some other company instead of us, it will be their problem if something happens, not ours!

Thanks for the input
