Done all I can. What next?

Hi Fellow DIY'ers,
My outside AC unit kicks on but never gets cold. I've checked the contactor and it is working fine. Voltage is fine as well.
That is really the end of my troubleshooting abilities. With the cover off, it sounds like the compressor is kicking on but much quieter than usual. Is this a clue as to what may be wrong? This is my first time turning it on for the year and it worked perfectly at the end of last season.

Anything else I can check or is time to bring in a pro?

Need a tech to check the refrigerant levels and add if needed.

Fix'n it

check the fan to see it if can turn. it could be the capacitor(i forgot the exact name for it) that gets the motor turning. i had that problem at my old place. i fixed it for $22, thanx to the forums.

that is a great suggestion.... this is not the case here as the compressor and condenser fan motor are running.... i suspect what all ready has been said its low on refrigerant

Thanks everyone for the advice and feedback. Issue ended up being a leaky fitting and no refrigerant. One service call and $200 later its like winter in my house.

Missouri Bound

I had my hvac serviced today....apparently $200 IS the magic number. That was a service call and 3# of R-22. Ran it for maybe an hour and all seemed well....but of course the heat wave is over and it's in the 50's now.
