does the tempstar smart comfort 2000 have a defrost setting

from time to time my external unit will make a sound like the fan is out of balance. when i go out an check it the fan is not running and there is steam coming from the unit. at first i thought that it was the clutch burning up, but it looks and smells like water vapor. does this unit have defrosting capabilities when it is full of ice or snow?

Heat pumps do go into defrost as needed.
