Do I need a new furnace?

Does it show you how to remove the filter? What make and model do you have?

Do you have a filter in a grill in the ceiling or in/on a wall? That's it. There won't be a filter in the unit if you have a return grill elsewhere.

Do I need a new furnace?

thanks for the reply. If you look at the first picture, the white sticker with the word 'MAINTENANCE' shows the two dark lines which according to the picture are supposed to be filters. But I spent a good 10 mins staring at the furnace and could not see a way or see any filters inserted at an angle.

BTW, is the furnace filter the one inside the home? If that's the same, then I have replaced that one consistently. Near the stairs, there is the air-intake pipe which is a huge pipe and that leads to the top of the furnace. Right in front of the huge pipe, there's the removable filter which I replace every now and then. Is that the same as the furnace filter?

My furnace is a day&night furnace. But I can't find any model number on it.

EDIT: looks like Doc answered the question. thanks guys!

AARGGGHHH! replaced the air-filter with a brand new one. Since cleaning the flame sensor the furnace worked fine for a few days. The heat produced seemed healthy, even heat. last night the furnace just died. Its blinking code 13 (flame rollout switch open) error. Looks like I'll need to replace it!

Do I need a new furnace?

UPDATE. I fixed the issue. Sort of.

I kept wondering, what's the biggest difference...when the repairman comes to take a look, the furnace is working just fine, but when he leaves, it stops working. When the repairman comes, I open the furnace doors so he can access the interiors. that's the answer. I kept open both the doors (like in the picture above), put a tape over the switch that makes sure the doors are in place and the furnace is working just fine! LOL

After a couple of days of monitoring, I closed the lid over the flame compartment because I was feeling insecure with the exposed flame. I have kept the blower compartment lid open and its working fine.

I called the repairman about this and he feels that sometimes they install a bigger furnance for a smaller home and the inlet pipe is not wide enough for the furnace to suck air and so it chokes. By keeping this door open, I am giving it more air to suck in.

Sometimes, the furnace will make a tiny high pitched sound and shut off for a while but then it'll correct itself and start working again!
