Is DIY HiV (small-duct) AC Possible?
Greetings All. The short question is: is it possible to put in Central Air, in particular Small Duct/High Velocity, yourself?
Last June I bought a 1936 Cape Cod just outside Washington, DC. Given the horrible summers we have, I would like to put in central air. I am, I believe, pretty competent -- my wife and I completely remodelled our kitchen including taking out a wall, re-plumbing the sink, repairing/replacing a rusted drain line, running electrical, drywalling a couple of walls, etc. I have also spent the last 5 years doing tech for a university physics department so I know the theory, for whatever it's worth.
So, is this the kind of thing I can do myself? Anyone have any experience or advice they'd like to share? Can I do some of the work myself and have a contractor do the tricky stuff?
Yes, it's easier to do than a regular sheetmetal duct system. Check out the Unico system that United Refrigeration carries.
Sorry I left out United has branches in Fairfax and Alexandria. I'm an old Arlington Farmboy myself.
