Diagnosing Carrier Problems

Hey. I was hoping someone could walk me thru how to diagnose components on a Carrier / Bryant furnace. Diagnosis using a multimeter. How does one determine which device is truly failing or causing a shut down? How to check Gas Valve, 3 wire Pilot, Ignition/Lockout and after transformer Curcuit board.

The furnaces I deal with are Carrier/Bryant. Model something like 394GAZ0240050AAEA.

In addition, any good picture resources to turn to. Either book, manual or online.

thanks

Diagnosing Carrier Problems

Try to search the internet for "sequence of operation", furnace etc. A lot of the time the documentation for your unit will state the sequence of operation you may check the manufactures web site for this information.

Diagnosing Carrier Problems

Contact a Carrier parts Dealer and get their service manuals if you deal with a fair amount of their equipment.

Diagnosing Carrier Problems

Thanks guys. I appreciate the response. I will be trying both things. Contacting a dealer will probably be really productive. Does anyone else have more insight?

I also have the problem of furnace shut down at night. Don't know why for sure. They work for several days fine then one night shut down.
Pilot? Gas Valve?? Ignition/Lockout??? Circuit board????

Which is the most likely to cause this? And I'm actually least suspicious about the pilot.
