Damper for Microhood - Make my own?
Hi,
Just purchased a home and I'm redoing the kitchen and in changing the cabinets, I discovered that there's no damper between the microwave hood and the vent through the roof.
Sorry, I don't know all the correct terms for parts, so I'll try to describe them the best I can.
There is a flap on the the vent on the roof. That connects to a round duct through the attic and down into the kitchen. then converts to a rectangle 4x10 (i think) just above the mircowave hood. That is duct taped to the top of the microwave hood.
In taking apart everything, I noticed there was no damper/flap in between the microwave hood and that conversion duct.
Is the flap on the vent on the roof enough to stop air from coming back into the house or do I need another damper above the microwave hood? The microwave hood is an older Maytag and I've checked various parts stores and Sears parts (I think they own maytag?) and they have the damper collar available, but they do not make the flap anymore, no one has it in stock.
So, if the flap on the roof is not good enough, I think I need to manufacture my own damper/flap. Is this something I should be considering or is there an alternative?
