Creative dryer vent: good or not good?
Sorry I don't have a picture, but I'll try to do a concise one in words.
My house has a number of recessed (12"), casement, windows in the basement, three panes/window. Aluminum frame storm/screen windows were added fitting roughly flush with the clapboard siding. I just added a dryer vent by replacing one of the pains of glass with sheet aluminum having a 4" hole, in which I added a vent hood with a flapper and an animal screen. The height of this rig is roughly 12 inches above ground. Now I'm thinking that, if we get the snow next winter that we didn't get this winter, it will pile up to and above the vent, and, at the least, require attention. Even if the dryer heat is enough to constantly melt any snow that 'buries' the vent, it may ice up and be locked open, etc.. So, my idea is, I should put the storm window back on - and put a grid of holes in it for heat/airflow. Can you picture this? It won't be snowproof, but I have access to a laser and I can make the hole as small as I like. Any thoughts? TIA |

Put an elbow on it and raise it up, at least for the winter.

Depends where you live. If it only snows a couple days a year and it's blocking it once or twice why not just shovel a hole in the snow when you do the sidewalks. No Biggi, all depends what part of the Country your from. May be someone from Buffalo Ny or Vermont will answer.
