Craigslist shop heater won't fire up.

I'll start off by asking please don't judge, I try to be thrifty and save a little money and sometimes it bites me in the *#%#*! I bought a Lennox LF24-45a-5 propane converted shop heater off of Craigslist to heat my detached garage. Pulled the manual offline and installed per instructed. Used my 5 gal propane tank(full) from my BBQ for a test run and no flame. I ran through at least 9 cycles where I could hear the igniter and the blower working but no flame. The LED flashes twice indicating no gas. Before the install i cleaned with compressed air. The next step was out of pure desperation, and please don't judge. Against all warning labels telling me not to light it myself, I got my thickest leather gloves and a fire extinguisher and tried to light it. All I got out of the jets were a small blue flame. Any advise would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
Steve

Did you have a regulator on the gas line from your BBQ tank. If not, may have damaged the gas valve. Tank pressure is too high for the gas valve to work.

Ugh!! No regulator. Makes sense now that I think about it. Hope I didn't destroy my valve. I'll try a hose with a regulator tomorrow. If not ill be back on this site soliciting help on replacing my gas valve. Thanks for your insight!!

If you use a regular reg like the one on a BBQ grille. Your flame may still be small, as those regs knock the pressure down to hat the manifold should be.

Now my neighbors think I'm crazy. With the regulator hooked up and everything checked twice over I turned it on and woof! It fired right up!! I jumped and yelled woooohoo!! Went outside and my neighbors were looking at me. A "warm" thanks to all that helped!
