I am just starting my research on installing a Central AC for my home. My original intent is to install 90% of it my self. I dont have ductwork in my home so I was thinking of one of the "SpacePAK" type of systems that uses the small ducts. I see that they are a lot more expensive than a traditional system...I can figure out about 75% of the routing of the ducts so far.
Here are my skill sets:electrical, plumbing, carpentry and drywall framing finIsh work etc.
Is this the type of job that a somehwhat skilled homeowner can take on?
Would this type of system be that much easier to install than the traditional systems?
Any war stories/experiences from other non HVAC craftsman that have successfully installed?
Any web sites you can reccommend for a DIY install.
watch and learn then you can practice on your friends
dont go overboard on the system and cheapout on the install a cheap system put in right will run circles around a 23seer maytag iq drive put in wrong
ps not all contractors will do it the right way either so i guess its a gamble either way
Good Point Geo Fan, I think all DIY's have a tendency to buy the best material thinking that they will save on the labor thereby getting a "better system" when in fact sometimes standard material installed correctly is the best route!
