Converting Boiler Pilot to Elect Ignition

I have 2 small Weil-McClean boilers for individual units in my small apt bldg. MY tenants pay their utilities. They both have pilots for ignition.

As a basic question, is it expensive to convert to Electronic ignition? Also, based on $1.30/therm.. does a pilot really cost much to have running 24/7?

THanks,

Tom

Honeywell makes a conversion kit that includes a Ignition control, gas valve and wiring harness, sells for around 200-300 dollars I think, but I am not sure, easy to change out.

THanks !!

Any idea what that is actually called?

Also I assume this is not a DIY deal since gas line would have to bew hooked up & tested, etc.

Is something like that cost-effective?

Thanks,

Tom

Its called a conversion kit, and its really not cost effective until your gas valve fails.

Does it increase the efficiency, yes, slightly.
