Question

contactor not pulling in????? help

hi, i have a split system 2 ton ruud that heats and cools 3 rms upstairs. The inside unit is working when t-stat calls for heat or cool but the condenser unit does not come on. I checked power on the 2 yellow wires that hook to the contactor and showing 26 volts going in so i thought the contactor was bad being it is about 16 yrs old,and so ireplaced the contactor cost 11.00 dollars. But now i have the same problem 26 volts to contactor but not pulling in, BUT when i manually press the contactor down everything works fine, on heat or cool mode. Can someone help me out with what i should check next or other most logical causes......thanks

contactor not pulling in????? help

Double check the new contactor and make sure it's not a 120 volt coil. With 26 volts present it should pull in if it's the right contactor.

Did you check voltage across the coil, or did you check it to ground?

contactor not pulling in????? help

when i check from 24 volt side terminal to opposite side of contactor terminal (or Across the coil) i don't get any reading. But if i run a jumper wire from common on the control board to the terminal opposite the 24 volt terminal it makes the contactor pull in.....

Then the contactors were both fine. And you have a problem with your wiring.

PS: use the contact us to get the password of your first account if you forgot.

Unless Dave knows another way.

Both names are registered to you. And both are registered to the same IP address. And list the same email address.
