Condenser freezing

Due to roughly 6" of snow and continued freezing rain today, the condenser housing louvers are freezing up on the sides. I have removed snow from the top and away from the bottom of the condenser. The heat pump condenser coil does routinely go into defrost and melts any ice off the coils. My concern is the possible airflow resistance over the condenser housing air louvers. Can I take a hair dryer to melt the ice off the housing with out doing damage to the condenser?

No it maybe low on freon, defrost switch bad, defrost board bad or bad heat txv. You may need to call a pro this time. Go ahead and turn on the emerg. heat for now

Depending on model.

Its common for them to freeze like that if they're ran during freezing rain.

Turn it off. Thaw it with something(hair dryer plugged into a GFCI recep).

Turn it back on. make sure it defrost as normal later tonight.
