Condenser Fan Stop/Start - Heat Pump

When my heat pump comes on the outside condenser fan will initially run for 30 seconds then it will shut off. Once the blades stop spinning it will start up again. Then it will shut off after 20 seconds. This cycle keeps repeating. What would cause the fan for the condenser to stop and start repeatedly?

Thanks for the help.

Loose connection.
Bad defrost board.

Condenser Fan Stop/Start - Heat Pump

Could it be that the fan is out of balance? If the fan is out of balance and vibrates too much would it automatically shut off?

If its far enough out, it might.

Does it shake enough that the outdoor unit looks like its going to fly apart.

The unit vibrates but it looks like a normal vibration. Nothing too crazy. I even held the unit with my hands so the vibration stops but it still shuts down.

Its possible that if its had that vibration for long enough, it could have damaged the bearings.

But, there are a lot of units out that have a vibration like that, and the fan is still going strong years later.

Needs to be checked with a meter, to find out why its stopping.
