Condenser Fan Motor RPM?

Greetings to the Forum. I have a Nordyne Heat Pump JT5BD-024K (outside) and GB5BM-125K-A (inside). I was away for 3 days and returned to 96* in house and outside fan was off and unit humming. I don't know how long it was like that. I replaced my run cap - 30/5uF/370v. Seems to run fine now. Condenser fan motor is a GE 5KCP39CF, 1/8 hp, PSC, 825 RPM. Could it have overheated and may fail sooner? I'd like to get a replacement ready to go. The 1/8 hp 825 RPM motors cost 2x the 1/4 hp 1075 RPM ones. And I'm not seeing many 1/8 hp units - 1/4 or 1/3 is more the norm. Is going more hp, more RPM a problem? Fan blades may stress a 1/4 hp motor and overheat it? Too much airflow for condenser fins/tubes? Thanks so much for insight. Doug

Condenser Fan Motor RPM?

Motor is probably fine. Have to stay with the 1/8HP 825RPM.

Condenser Fan Motor RPM?

You _could_ replace it with a 1075 if you also changed the blade, and could match up the airflow, etc etc ... but that is difficult to do at best, and in my experience is a hit-or-miss prospect.

Several years ago someone came out with a motor replacement "guide" that showed how to swap those expensive 825 RPM motors with 1075 RPM motors. You provided motor specs and blade size/pitch and (supposedly) the guide would tell you which 1075 motor and blade combo would replace the 825+blade combo.

Let's just say that the results were not quite as rosy as expected, and those companies who chose to go the cheaper route ended up eating a LOT of those 1075 motors and blades ...

Thanks, beenthere and scott. I'll just stay with 825 and same blade.
