Condenser fan motor and capacitor replacement
 

Tomorrow I have to buy and replace my condenser fan motor. Question is do I need to buy a new capacitor also. Present one is less than a year old. The tech who put it in convinced me to pay a lot of extra bucks for it but since then I am not sure I trust him. The system is a split setup Coleman inside and Armstrong SCU10E36A-1A condenser outside. Present fan is AN A O Smith F42C52A45. Plan on replacing it with an Armstong Ducane 42521-001 and an 89M77 cap if I need to. Prompt answers appreciated as I am only getting cold air now by oiling a nonoilable bearing???

yes, always replace the capacitor with a motor replacement

Condenser is fixed. Local (60) miles one way had parts coolling now slowly, outside temp is 99. Mfg of old cap says I could have used it but I followed hvactech126 advice and replaced it. My new question is it any good to anyone or do I need to dispose of it in some special manner????

By replacing the cap when you put in the new motor, you did the right thing.

shouldn't a used cap be discharged before being tossed?

If you want to run a screw driver across the terminals to discharge it, you can. By now it should already have dissipated its charge9since (7/15).
