Comfortmaker GUK100A016IN Noise

When my furnace calls for heat, the inducing motor turns on with no problems and sounds normal. Then when the flame is lit it sounds like an airplane is taking off. I'm assuming it's a fan of some sort. The noise goes away when the heats kicks off, but the exhaust fan is still on.

Can anyone give me an idea of what the problem may be? It's sounds like bearings may be going.

Thanks for any help!!!

1) try run the furnace blower fan in the ON position from the tstat and see if it is the blower rather than the exhaust fan. the exhaust fan will load up/work harder when the flame is on so it may then make noise and i suspect that is the problem.

I had my wife turn blower fan to the ON position when the furnace was off. She said she heard the same sound. So it sounds like it's the blower fan.

I'm going to take a peak at it today. Hopefully it will be an easy fix. I'll let you know.

Thanks for the help!

Question

Comfortmaker GUK100A016IN Noise

Additional information on the furnace. It's an Enviro Pro Plus 90 RPJ II model. After doing some initial investigation, it doesn't appear to be the blower fan.The noise starts with the Induction motor. It sounds like it might be coming from the Heater Exchanger "enclosure". Could the noise be from the heater exchanger?

Thanks for any help.

No. THe inducer motor spins at 3000 rpm or higher and they will wear out. How old is the furnace. Post the serial # here. Some of them had problems with heat exchangers cracking or compression rings that hold it together popping and some had the infamous HWell not Smart valve which can be a problem/hard to troubleshoot and expensive to replace. May want to invest your repair $$ in a new furnace.

The serial number is L942684403. I'm pretty sure it was installed in 1994. It sounds like the noise is coming from the induction motor. I may remove that and see if there are any cracked blades. From the outside it seems fine, except for the noise. The noise is more noticeable on the first floor when standing above the furnace then it is being directly next to it.

Thanks for your time with helping me.

Regards,
RFW

L94 is 1994. If you can replace the inducer yourself then do so. I would not pay big $$ to get a Pro to do it and would buy a new furnace as it may turn into a money pit soon. americanhvacparts.com seems good.

I will look into the inducer first. I'll let you know if it turns out to be the inducer. Thanks again!
