COMFORTMAKER ENVIRO PLUS 90 Dead not responding

I have a late 90's COMFORTMAKER ENVIRO PLUS 90 I came down this morning to find it 60 degrees in the house and dropping. It doesn't respond at all to the termostat. I checked the 50A50-112 control and saw 1 red flash when I push on the door switch.

There are some pictures of the unit.

What do I check 1st?

Shut off furnace power. CAREFULLY jumper Rh to W on the tstat. Don't hit any other terminals or damage can occur. Turn on power.

So the thermostat has 3 buttons marked test fan cool heat. I hit the fan and it came on. I hit the heat and it worked. So I am guessing that the heat buttom jumps rh and w. So the thermostat is bad? It is only a few years old from Home Depot. I believe it was over $100 I think it is time to return it. Can I leave rh and W jumped for the time being?

As long as someone is home so the house does not overheat. And they know how to shut off the furnace power switch. It is not a good quality tstat. Buy a GOOD Honeywell Focus Pro or Vision Pro type.

So I went out and picked up another Thermostat . The house was about 80 degrees when we got back so I installed it put on a movie and went to dinner. I came back and the house was around 68 and the heat didn't kick on. When I just the RH & W it works fine but with the new thermostat hooked up like it has been for the past 4 years it doesn't work. Nothing seems to have changed Any ideas?

Who was the movie for then?

For the past 4 years, that new thermostat sat in a warehouse without any wires connected to it.

Nothing seems to have changed Any ideas?
LOl.. Sorry.

What brand and model thermostat did you get?

Remove stat from wall. With the stat still wired up, and calling for heat. Turn it around, move it a little. If you suddenly hear the furnace run or try to run while handling the stat. You have a bad wire or wire connection in the wall.

Seen a lot of thermostat wires wire nutted together inside the wall. If the red(24 volt hot) or common have a bad connection. Then the stat may not get enough power to operate both itself and the furnace.

Also check that you don't have any wire insulation under the screws.

Actually it was an even exchange at Home Depot it is a Rite Temp 6080 it has a 5 year warranty from home depot so they just replace it or give you your purchase price back with the reciept and box. Pretty neat actually.

Ok well I figured you would understand what I meant. We watched a movie and then went to dinner., I actually checked the wiring and it is all fine. I replaced the batteries in the new stat last night and it seems to be working now. I am not sure if it was the batteries or maybe a loose wire but for now its working and I am leaving it alone!! Thanks!

Sometimes, those battery operated ones sit in a warehouse for a couple years. So its not hard to believe that the batteries that came with the thermostat could have been already too weak.

Congrats, and stay warm.

I thought maybe the movie was to entertain the new thermostat. ROFL.
