Coleman Evacon Furnace Inducer Fan

When we originally turned on the furnace this year the fan was not working. The tech that came out freed up the fan and cleaned it. He said it may have been stuck due to sitting for the summer and condensation. So now it seems to work ... sometimes. Then all of a sudden the motor will just stop and the furnace will not turn on again. We get the 3 flashing lights as we were getting originally.

If we wait until the lights stop flashing or turn off the furnace manually and turn it back on calling for heat the only way the inducer fan starts is if we hit the outside of the fan container to jar it. It will then go through normal cycles but will eventually repeat this scenario over again. We probably can replace the inducer fan motor but can you oil or lubricate the fan motor? If you can what is best to oil it with? 3 in 1 oil, WD40???

Time to replace it. It will just seize up again sometime later if you manage to lubricate it. And if it does it on a cold Sunday, you could be without heat for a day or 2, and risk frozen water pipes.

And go ahead and order the entire inducer assembly, not just the motor. It sounds to me as if the squirell cage is hanging up. It may be worth it to remove the assembly and take a look at the blower wheel.

Usually we replace the whole fan unit with motor and wheel. 99.9% of the time the wheel won't come off or it gets warped and ruined. Only brand I know that sells the motor separate is Carrier and I always get the wheel with it.
