Cold Air Return Filter

during the warmer months, i get spiders coming up through my cold air return vents. is it ok to put a filter inside the cold air return vents? will that choke off the furnace?

normally if you have spiders, thats a sign of bugs as well.

I'm thinking during the warmer months, get a dehumidifier running to remove moisture from the air, this will lessen the bugs and spiders that eat them.

Adding a filter on those vents will lessen the effectiveness of your cooling/heating system. you would have to increase the area of the vent to keep the same flow rate.

Cold Air Return Filter

A temp rise test across the furnace will tell you if / or how restrictive a filter you can put on your return air.
The mastic on the duct joints helps unless you have a fresh air vent attached to your return air duct.
I think realizing that spiders only consume other home bugs makes many folks more tolerant of them.
